I purchased this book over a decade ago from the Fayette County Library Book Fair. I remember the moment I picked it up. I knew it was a gem. But guess what ? It took me over 10 years to finally read it ! I’m not really sure why. I guess I just never made the time, and it moved from book shelf to book shelf and even found it’s way to my home office when I moved across town years later.
I always kept up with it, and I’m so glad I did ! I finally read it a year ago, and I couldn’t put it down. This book has catapulted me into my calling to help forgotten and abandoned children. I cried continuously reading these stories. This book took my desire to adopt from 100 to 1000.
For various reasons, there are countless minors who have managed to evade the foster care system and find themselves alone on the streets…hidden among us. This book offers a detailed account of their stories. I won’t spoil the details for you, but I highly recommend this book for anyone with a heart for abandoned youth. Maybe it will have the same impact on you as it did on me.
This book was written and narrarated by a New York City nun who I’d love to meet one day. At the time, she was a director at a youth shelter widely known as Covenant House. Thanks for reading… See you next post !
